There are many factors behind this growth apart from the quality of French Higher Education and its growing international reputation. The increased visibility in university rankings, increase in the English taught programs and a cost effective alternative compared to other destination countries. Hence presenting an alternative model to the higher education.

According to the ministry figures, about half international students are from an African country, while 22% are from Europe (18% from the EU), 21% from the Asia and 9% from the Americas.

Amongst these international students, universities are the most popular with about 70% students enroll in such institutes, making up 14.6% of the student population.

The International students are categorized as undergrad enrollments representing 11.6%, master’s about 17% and 41% comprises of doctorate level students.

Many French institutes are now working towards developing and promoting France as a study destination in non-Francophone countries, such as China, Vietnam, India, Brazil and African and Middle Eastern countries. Including several English taught programs tailor made for the students are one of the many things that these Universities are developing.

One of the other reasons for France becoming a major destination for international students is Paris. Paris was recently ranked second with the highest number of institutes featuring in the Times Higher Education World ranking.

Also there are many high-ranking universities in Paris, compared with other major global cities giving it an edge over other Nations.

French Consulate-General is prepared to welcome over 10,000 Indian students by 2020 and is open to hosting more Indian students.
